About

Screening of Michael Larnell's debut feature film, Cronies
&
Masterclass on representation of minority voices on film

Join the Sundance-acclaimed filmmakers behind the film Cronies, an artistic masterpiece that will transport you to balmy St Louis as you've never seen it before. Cronies tells the story of three young men grappling with their friendship as their lives pull them in opposite directions.

Following in the footsteps of his personal mentor, Spike Lee, director Michael Larnell breathes life into characters that are not often seen in mainstream cinema. The screening will be followed by a discussion on black representation, in front of and behind the camera.

The event will be moderated by the Founder and Executive Director of The Luminal Theater, Curtis John.

INDIEWIRE

“Cronies” feels alive and of-the-moment. You can feel the balmy warmth of St. Louis summers, just as you can feel the various social pressures these men have to face.”

THE WRAP

“Sundance has given us Ryan Coogler and Justin Simien in recent years...Larnell could find himself on a similar trajecto* as those talented African-American film makers.”

NO FILM SCHOOL

“Michael J. Larnell's directorial debut is a film that feels equal parts dangerous and playful.”

CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND

“This St. Louis isn’t the one most news outlets have aggressively shown off in recent months, the land of chaos and discontent and violence, but a place where people live just like anywhere else, usually preoccupied with their own everyday struggles.”
